This project was designed for a family caring for aging children with disabilities, requiring a thoughtful balance of accessibility, comfort, and social functionality. The brief called for a substantial living extension that could support day-to-day family life for four people while also accommodating larger social gatherings with ease.
A key driver of the design was orientation, positioning the new spaces to capture sunlight and create a warm, uplifting environment. At the heart of the extension is a generous kitchen and social hub, centred around a large island that encourages connection, interaction, and ease of movement.
The project also included an upgrade to the existing bathroom, improving both functionality and accessibility. Throughout, the design carefully responds to and integrates with the existing architecture, ensuring a cohesive and seamless result.
The interior palette reflects a high-end, contemporary aesthetic, featuring rich walnut veneers paired with contrasting dark and light tones across benchtops, splashbacks, cabinetry, and detailing such as toekicks.
