Design advice

Design advice that sounds wrong… but we promise it works.

Some design rules have been around for so long that questioning them feels a little illegal.

Small room? Better keep everything small.
Dark colours? Absolutely not, it’ll make the space feel tiny.
Sofa against the wall? That’s where it belongs, right?

…Not quite.

Good design isn’t about following a checklist of “rules”, it’s about understanding how a space feels, flows and functions. Sometimes the biggest impact comes from doing the opposite of what your brain expects.

A large rug can make a small lounge feel more connected and spacious. Curtains hung higher can draw your eye upwards and create the illusion of height. Pulling your sofa away from the wall can actually give the room more breathing room. And yes darker colours can make a small space feel warm, intentional and incredibly cosy (not like a cave).

Even symmetry, while beautiful, isn’t always the answer. Perfectly balanced doesn’t always mean perfectly designed.

The best spaces aren’t created by following every “rule” you’ve ever heard. They’re created by knowing when to break them.
