The Curtain Trick That Makes Windows Look Bigger
Here’s a small design detail that can change how a whole room feels: where you hang your curtain rod.
Many curtain rods sit just above the window frame. It seems like the obvious place, but it can make the window look smaller and the ceiling feel lower. Try hanging the rod higher and wider instead. This draws the eye up and out, giving the impression of a taller, broader window.
The extra width also gives the curtains somewhere to sit when they’re open, so they don’t cover as much of the glass. More of the window stays visible, and more natural light can come into the room.
Then there’s the length. Curtains that stop above the floor can make a room feel a little unfinished. For a clean look, choose curtains that just touch the floor. If you prefer a softer, more relaxed finish, let the fabric rest slightly on the floor.
Before buying new curtains, measure carefully. Check the width of the window, how far beyond the frame the rod can extend, and the distance from the rod to the floor. The right measurements help the curtains hang neatly and frame the window well.
It’s a simple change, but the effect can be surprisingly noticeable. Hang your curtains higher, extend them wider and let them reach the floor. Your windows will feel grander, and the room will feel more polished.
